Indiana Cheerleading
Coach of the Year: Each year we honor some of Indiana’s finest cheerleading coaches. Nomination forms are sent out to all junior high and high schools at the beginning of the school year. After receiving nominations from across the state, three finalists were chosen, and from those, a Cheer Coach of the Year was named at our State Championship on November 5th. Congratulations to Amy Gonzagowski from Bishop Dwenger High School, the 2011 Cheer Coach of the Year.

Indiana Cheer Coach Education and Training
Safety
USA Cheer and the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Administrators are bringing spirit and safety together as new partners in the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention’s (CDC) Heads Up campaign. This joint effort will help build concussion awareness among cheer coaches, parents, fans and cheerleaders themselves. The
ever-growing popularity of cheerleading coupled with the year-round nature of the sport, unfortunately, has led to a higher total incidence of concussions in our sport than in many others. That is why we are encouraging you to get involved and learn more about concussion by visiting http://www.cdc.gov/Concussion.
Rules Interpretation Meetings
Rules Interpretation meetings will be scheduled to update Cheer coaches on the 2011 NFHS Spirit Rules in the summer and fall of 2011. A coach must attend a meeting if their team will be participating in the IASP sponsored cheer competition in the fall. There is no charge for attendance. Coaches will receive a 2011 NFHS Spirit Rules booklet at the meeting. Please see top of page for new meeting times.
Cheer Coaches Conference
The 2011 Cheer Coaches Conference was held July 30 at Carmel High School. Check back for the 2012 date!
Required Training
The IASP Department of Student Programs is dedicated to helping Indiana Cheerleader Coaches keep up to date on the most current rules. Rules Interpretation Meetings are required each year of coaches who participate in ICC Cheer Competitions.
