2009 Indiana Cheer Coaches Conference
The 2009 Indiana Cheer Coaches Conference will be Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Carmel High School. The conference will include a 2009-10 Spirit Rules Interpretation update meeting, which is required for participation in the ICA Cheer Competition . Bill Patterson and Lucy Moore are scheduled speakers. Saturday's sessions will begin at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at approximately 4:00 p.m. For registration form, please click here.

High School Cheer Coach of the Year Awards
IASP is proud to announce the 2008 Indiana High School Cheer Coach of the Year recipient as Emily Oliver-Jones, New Washington Middle/High School cheer coach. Cheer Coach Finalists were Gene Fulmer, Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School and Brenda Kelly, Cathedral High School
All three finalists were recognizes at the 2008 State Finals at New Castle High School on November 8.

Jr High Cheer Championship Results
Congratulations to all teams who participated in the Indiana Jr High Cheer Championships on October 25, 2008 at Highland Senior High School in Anderson! Special congratulations go the medalist teams in the three divisions:
7th Grade Division: Bronze - East Side Middle School, Anderson; Silver - St. Vincent DePaul School, Fort Wayne; Gold - St. Charles Borromeo School, Fort Wayne.
8th Grade Small Division: Bronze - St. Charles Borromeo School, Fort Wayne; Silver - East Side Middle School, Anderson; Pendleton Heights Middle School, Pendleton.

Jr High Cheer Coach of the Year Award
The 2008 Jr High Cheer Coach of the Year Award was presented to Elsa Turner of Saint Charles Borromeo School at the Jr High Cheer Championship on October 25. Elsa has been coaching for 20 years, and is an excellent coach and role model for her cheerleaders. Congratulations, Elsa!

2009 Cheer Coach of the Year Nomination form: Nomination forms are now available, allowing principals, athletic directors, coaches, parents, etc. to nominate a deserving Indiana Cheer Coach. Rules Interpretation Meetings: Rules Interpretation meetings will be scheduled to update Cheer coaches on the 2009 NFHS Spirit Rules. A coach must attend a meeting if their team will be participating in the IASP sponsored cheer competition in the fall. There is no charge for attendance. Coaches will receive a 2009 NFHS Spirit Rules booklet at the meeting. A rules interpretation meeting will be held at our Cheer Coaches Conference, August 1 at Carmel High School. Required Training
The IASP Department of Student Programs is dedicated to helping Indiana Cheerleader Coaches keep up to date on the most current rules. Rules Interpretation Meetings are required each year of coaches who participate in ICC Cheer Competitions.

Spirit Rules Changes for 2009 - 2010
All cheer coaches who particpate in ICC Competitions are required to attend a Rules Interpretation Meeting, and all other cheer coaches are encouraged to attend a meeting. Coaches will have an opportunity to attend at update meeting at the annual Indiana coaches conference. Those who are unable to attend the meeting at the August 1 Coaches Conference will be given additional opportunities.

Indiana Cheerleader Legislation Update
As Indiana Cheer Coaches work to be prepared for new laws which affect their training, many coaches are looking to find what final decisions have been made. Although the lawmaking part is over, the Indiana Dept. of Education is still in the process of promulgating & will meet this fall to determine what the final term of the law will be. At this point, the DOE has made no additional changes in stunt restrictions or safety training requirements. We will update principals, coaches, and athletic directors by email and on this web site as soon as any new information becomes available.

Scholarship Opportunities: Each Indiana Cheer Competition participating school has the opportunity for senior cheerleaders to compete for scholarships in the Individual All State Competition held in the Fall as a part of the State Championships, and again in the All-State Academic Cheer Team program in the Spring.
