Competition Results
Congratulations to all teams who participated in the Science Bowl Competition on January 26, 27 & 28! Competition results are now available. Click here to view the Competition Results Page.

Contest Day Reminders
Competition questions will be released on January 25, on the same site as the practice questions that were released in December.  You may choose to take those competition tests in any order, and at any time on January 25, 26, or 27 (or a combination of those dates).  You will use ONLY the “A” log-in/password for the Experiment Round and Team Round (so only 1 set of answers are submitted), and will use all 4 login/passwords for the Individual Round.

You may choose how to have your team do the experiment.  Your team may all work as one group, or you may have several groups performing the experiment & comparing results.  You may also choose WHEN to perform the experiment, either prior to the contest days, or on one of those three contest days. Click here for Experiment Instructions.

Online Practice Questions
Online practice questions will be available (beginning December 16, 2010). Instructions on accessing the information will be sent by email to coaches. A total of 17 new questions are posted, which have no time limit, and may be taken as many times as you wish. Please log in using all 4 usernames/passwords that will be necessary for the competition. Students and coaches can use the practice questions to become familiar with both the type of questions that will be included in the competition, and also the testing environment (pay special attention to how the indicators show which questions have been answered, and which have been saved). Science Bowl Explanation

The IASP Department of Student Programs in partnership with Purdue University has developed an online Science Bowl competition for elementary school students in grades 4, 5 & 6. Instead of travling to a host site to compete, teams will take an online test at their school or another internet ready site of their choosing. Indiana Science Standards for grades 5, 6, and 7 have been targeted as the base to build questions for this new activity. The 90 minute contest will use questions created by outside consultants from Indiana Science Standards (see Science Bowl Coach Handbook for specific standards used each year.  Practice questions will be released in mid-December, and continue to be available through January so teams can use it as their schedule allows. The Competition will be held on three consecutive days in late January, and teams may choose which date(s) work best for them. If technology is not available at the school, alternate sites may be selected.

A team may be made up of a minimum of four members. There is no maximum number of team members. Only 4 will submit the individual question section, but . Alternate team members may join in conducting the virtual experiment and following team questions with coach’s permission.

The 90 minute on-line contest will present 30 questions to be answered by allowing 30 minutes for team questions related to an on-site, hands-on experiment and the results. 30 minutes for general team questions.  The last 30 minutes will be devoted to individual questions. A maximum of 4 computers may be used for this section.

The scoring will give team feed back quickly and state wide results by the next day at noon. Awards will be mailed to teams following the posted results. Plaques will be awarded to the top 3 teams in each class. Ribbons will be sent to the Top Ten teams. Student participation certificates will be sent to each coach after DSP receives notification of how many are needed. Email dabel@iasp.org for the number of certificates required.
