Instructions For Indiana Academic Super Bowl Proctors
(Please have your proctor read this information prior to the coaches’/proctors’ meeting.)

Supplies needed:
2 extra lead pencils
1 red pen for scoring answer sheets
Scrap paper
NOTE: These supplies will be obtained from the Host Site Coordinator and distributed by the Proctor Supervisor before the competition begins.

BEFORE COMPETITION BEGINS:

1. Sit at the end of the squad’s table.

2. Fill in the team name and subject area on the cover page of each answer packet.

3. Instruct the captain to print all squad member’s names, including alternates at the top of answer sheet.

4. Place your initials next to the names of the competing students in the subject area column of the registration sheet and report any irregularities to the procedural committee immediately. The captain must remain at table for questions 1-25.

5. Clear the score stands or instruct your student helper to clear the score stands so that no points are indicated. Start all flip charts on zero.

DURING THE COMPETITION:

Decorum
“Every effort will be made during competition to allow contestants to concentrate. No unnecessary talking or gestures should be made to or around contestants in competition. This is particularly important for judges, proctors, scorekeepers, timers, emcees and coaches to not.” Proctors must give undivided attention to the task of scoring and not be overly concerned with his/her home school score as this can be distracting.

1. As necessary, remind students that no oral communication is permitted prior to the command “begin.” Remind them that further infractions may result in the disqualification of their answer.

2. For each correct answer mark a “+” to the left of the question mark.

3. For each incorrect answer draw a line through the entire line of response.

4. If an answer is correct, give the student one point on the displayed score stand.

5. Remind students to lift pencils from the paper and hold pencils up when the buzzer sounds.

6. Refrain from talking to students once each tests begins.

AT THE END OF EACH ROUND:

1. Total the score for the round by adding the number of pluses. (Maximum regular score for the squad is 25.)

2. Record the squad’s first round (maximum of 25) score in the box on the bottom of the answer sheet.

3. Record the squad’s first tie-breaker score (maximum 5). (The number correct out of questions #21-22-23-24-25.)

4. Record the squad’s second tie-breaker score (maximum of 3) in the appropriate box provided on the answer sheet. (The number correct our of questions #23, 24 and 25).

5. Record the squad’s third tie-breaker score (maximum of 25) in the appropriate box provided on the answer sheet. (The greatest number of questions answered correctly in succession. Example: The squad misses the first two questions but answers the next 23 “in succession” - score 23).

6. Request each captain to certify, by his/her signature, the accuracy of the score at the end of each round.

7. The signed answer sheet is the official score for the competition.
